Tim Shaghoian is a musician, composer, and educator based in Fresno, CA. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Music Performance from California State University, Fresno. In conjunction with his studies at the university, he holds a teaching associate position in the jazz studies program where he instructs a class in small ensemble jazz performance. Tim holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Performance on the saxophone from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied with renowned modern jazz saxophonist Peter Epstein. He is the piano accompanist and co-director of the Kastner Intermediate School jazz choir and he is on the Milestones Youth Jazz Workshop faculty where he teaches small ensemble jazz, improvisation, and saxophone.
Tim is on the board of directors for La Sierra Creative Arts Camp, where he teaches woodwinds and leads master classes and jazz workshops. In 2016 he was a featured artist at the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival, premiering multiple original compositions written for his quintet. Tim released his first album as a co-leader in 2018 with the group TTRC. The album, Sunset EP, features original compositions and freely improvised music for three saxophones recorded at famed Los Angeles recording studio Sunset Sound. Tim has had the pleasure of performing with musicians such as Gilad Hekselman, Mark Ferber, James Winn, and Peter Epstein.
