James Miley

Composer and pianist James Miley is a recipient of the IAJE/Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition and associate professor of Music at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where he directs the Willamette Jazz Collective and teaches composition, improvisation, orchestration, music theory, and music technology. His music for large jazz ensembles is published by E-Jazzlines, UNC Jazz Press, and Sierra Music, which includes arrangements affiliated with the Radiohead Jazz Project. His work has been performed in Europe, China, and Nepal, as well as by many of the top high school and university big bands throughout the United States. As a pianist, he can be heard with Bug (featuring saxophonist Peter Epstein) and the Hashem Assadullahi Sextet with Ron Miles on Origin Records; his most recent release is Trio Untold (2018), with Mike Nord (guitar and electronics) and Ryan Biesack (drums and percussion) on PJCE Records.
