Milestones offers jazz performance ensembles for kids of every skill level from upper elementary through high school. Following are the ensemble descriptions.
Jazz Foundations Ensemble
This group is for those with limited or no jazz/improvisation experience. This focus with this ensemble is on learning the fundamentals of jazz and jazz improvisation, including blues improvisation. All instruments are welcome!
Rehearsals: The ensemble will meet at the Milestones facility on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 pm
Performances: The Jazz Foundations Ensemble will perform at least once during the Fall semester and twice in the Spring semester.
Jazz Discovery Ensemble
The Jazz Discovery Ensemble will explore additional jazz styles and jazz improvisation skills and techniques. The ensemble is open to students of intermediate to advanced playing abilities who also have a year or more of improvisation experience. This group is open to all instruments.
Rehearsals: The group will meet at the Milestones facility on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 pm
Performances: The group will perform at least twice during both the Fall and Spring semesters.
All-Star Jazz Ensemble

When registration is sufficient, the group will include both a big band and two small ensembles (the first small group will be comprised of the lead players and rhythm section with the remaining members in the second group). In the instance when registration does not allow for a full big band, the focus will be exclusively on a small group ensemble.

Performances: The All-Star Ensemble will represent the Milestones program at jazz festivals and other events both semesters.
